Hi, my name is Mrs. Herbst, and this is my first year at GHEC. I am teaching Special Education with my case load mostly K-7. I do have an occasional high school student, as my license is for K-12. I also have a Reading Specialist. Degree. I received my degrees from MN State University - Mankato. I grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis, but I met my husband of 34 years, at college, and have never left the area . I live on Lake Crystal with my husband, Mike, and several cats. He has worked for Syngenta in Amboy for 34 years. His present position is the Shipping/Warehouse Manager. We have two daughters, Kirsten, 27 and Katie, 25.
This is a second career for me. My undergraduate degree is in Dietetics with a Chemistry Minor. I operated my own business as a Long Term Care Consultant for many years.. I discovered my passion for children and teaching through my volunteer work as a Girl Scout Leader and Sunday School Teacher. I have always had a passion for reading. While attending graduate school, I worked as a Title I and Special Education Paraprofessional, Reading Corps Tutor, and Cheerleading Coach at LCWM in Lake Crystal and as a Youth Director at Zion Lutheran, also in Lake Crystal. My first teaching job was at Madelia Elementary as the 5th and 6th grade Special Education Teacher and the Reading Corps Internal Coach. From there I went to JWP in Janesville where I taught Special Education K-3.
I am so excited to be working at GHEC! It is a beautiful facility with warm and welcoming staff and students, and loads of community support. If I have not met you yet, I look forward to meeting you. The best way to get in touch with me is through my e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
